A Nostalgic Time at the Kyo-machiya
The Naraya Memorial Sugimoto Residence Preservation Society will open the Sugimoto Residence to celebrate “A Nostalgic Time at the Kyo-machiya” on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 12, 2019 through February 23, 2020 (except for 11/1, 12/1, 12/27~1/5, 2/1, 2/15). As a change from the usual exhibitions like “Hinamatsuri” (the Doll Festival) in March, “Tango-no-Sekku” (the Boy’s Festival) in May, and “Byobu Matsuri” (Gion Festival) in July, the Preservation Society hopes to recapture what daily life was like in the old days at the Kyo-machiya. Visitors will be invited to enjoy special moments in the Residence such as writing a letter on a small writing table, playing with origami (folding papers) or otedama (beanbags), etc., in a room of shade and shadow where they can closely feel the rhythms of Nature.
