“Admire the Changing Seasons” – Public Viewing of the Sugimoto Residence: Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June 5 to 21

The Sugimoto Residence, a designated National Important Cultural Property and one of Kyoto’s largest traditional kyo-machiya townhouses built 156 years ago, will be open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June 5 to 21, 2026.

In June, the residence will be arranged as a traditional Kyoto townhouse, much as it was in the days of earlier generations. Please enjoy the view of the garden, beautifully framed by the fresh greenery of early summer.

Open DaysFridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the following period:
Friday, June 5 – Sunday, June 21, 2026

Closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Open Time10:00–17:00
Admission closes at 16:00.

Guided explanations in Japanese are offered at 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15, and 15:15. Participation is optional. If you would like to join one, please arrive at the residence by one of the times listed above.

If you arrive after a session has started, you may either join the explanation partway through or explore the residence on your own.

*Camera equipment, including compact cameras, may not be brought into the residence. Photography with smartphones is permitted; however, photos may not be used for commercial purposes.

*We may refuse entry to visitors who do not follow the instructions of staff.

*Infants and preschool children are not permitted to enter.
